Short answer
No — I don’t regret switching. Fedora 42 improved daily performance and privacy compared to my previous Windows setup. Below is a detailed look at the pros, cons, and real-world tradeoffs.
Work and productivity
Most productivity workflows worked out of the box. LibreOffice handled documents, and web apps covered remaining needs. The learning curve was small and most issues were solvable with a quick web search.
Compatibility
Hardware compatibility was excellent for my laptop; some peripherals required additional drivers, but community guides made setup straightforward. Gaming needed Proton tweaks but most titles ran fine.
Privacy & security
Linux gives you clearer control over updates and data collection. Fedora’s regular updates and SELinux integration help secure the system without constant background telemetry found in some other OS ecosystems.
Final verdict
If you value openness, control, and cost savings, switching to Fedora is worth it. There are trade-offs, but for my use-case the benefits have been consistent.
